    AAC Training Opportunities coming soon!

    There are three events coming up in the next few months that we think may be of interest. They are all related to AAC, but each is in a different part of Scotland and each focuses on different aspects of AAC.

    1. 4th May - Access for All
       
    2. 29th May to 2nd June - Liberator @ FACCT - Training Week and Roadshow
       
    3. 7th November - ACP:S - 16th Annual Study Day

     

    4th May - Access for All

    Special Interest Group: AAC (Scotland) presents its 9th Annual Study Day at the Wolfson Lecture Theatre in Dundee.

    The day will includes 4 seminars:

    • Tackling Transition: Symbolising the Mainstream Primary Environment
    • Interactive Whiteboards and Lifeskills
    • Music - Access for All
    • Introduction to Scanning (not to quickly, not too slowly)

    The event is at the Wolfson Lecture Theatre, Queen Mother Building, University of Dundee (click here for directions - it is the Applied Computing building)

    The day will cost £25 (including lunch) and you need to get your booking in by 24th April to secure your place. Contact Wilma Armstrong at SCTCI on 0141 201 2619 for more details.

     

    29th May to 2nd June - Liberator @ FACCT - Training Week and Roadshow

    This series of courses over 4 days (with a Roadshow on throughout and on day 5) is presented by Liberator.

    Day 1: ViP AAC Communication Software Masterclass (day 1)
    A Beginners guide to Vocab Iconic Plus and its Augmentative Symbol Porgrams

    Day 2: ViP AAC Communication Software Masterclass (day 2)

    Day 3: Multi-Sensory Referencing including Objects of Reference

    The days will all take place at FACCT at the Auchterderran Centre in Fife (click here for a map)

    7th November - Augmentative Communication in Practice:Scotland - 16th Annual Study Day

    The University of Stirling

    The 2006 Augmentative Communication in Practice: Scotland Study Day will be held in Stirling on 7th November. The Study Day will consist of plenary presentations and one-hour seminars with an emphasis on the practical use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). A limited number of free places are available for AAC users to attend the Study Day.

    Keynote Speakers:

    • Dr. Annalu Waller: title to be confirmed
    • Scott Barbour (AAC User): Day to Day Interaction with AAC and How it Affects our Lives

    The rest of the programme is not yet fully established but will include presentations and workshops on topics on the practical use of AAC, including eg.:

    • The use of symbols in a pre-school, school, or adult setting
    • Approaches to assessment for a communication system
    • Selecting and mounting switches
    • Using a communication aid in a school, or adult setting
    • Using AAC to take part in community activities
    • AAC and reading
    • AAC for people who have additional disabilities, e.g. visual impairment

    (There is still time (just) to submit an abstract if you would like to present).
