The 16th Annual Augmentative Communication in Practice: Scotland Study Day is to be held in Stirling on 7th November 2006. The Study Day will consist of a number of plenary presentations and one-hour seminars with an emphasis on the practical use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
The organisers would like to invite seminar papers on any topic relating to the practical use of AAC. Topics might include:
- The use of AAC in a pre-school setting
- The use of symbols in a school, or adult setting
- New ideas for low tech communication
- Approaches to assessment for a communication system
- Selecting and mounting switches
- Using a communication aid in a school, or adult setting
- Using AAC to take part in community activities
- New approaches to communication
- Using AAC with people who have additional disabilities, e.g. a visual impairment
Contributions from people who use AAC and their family members would be particularly welcome. (There are a limited number of free places available for AAC users to attend the Study Day.)
Seminars can take the form of traditional platform presentations, video presentations, interactive workshops, case studies, etc. At present, we are asking people to submit an abstract, outlining proposals for a seminar presentation. Please read the guidelines overleaf before submitting your abstract.
